Owners of family-run Splits bakery have confirmed the business will be leaving Bognor Regis town centre.
The news follows a planning application by Dallas Chicken Ltd being submitted for the premises on 1 Station Road.
Carl and Lorraine Edney, who also have shops in East Wittering, Bersted and Chichester, confirmed even if it isn’t approved that they will be ‘definitely going’.
Lorraine said, as well as other factors, it was down to the fact ‘my husband and I aren’t getting any younger and our children didn’t choose to come into the business, other than one daughter’.
She added: “I have had some lovely customers here but it is the right decision.
“But the good thing is hot food is our best seller here so if a good chain who does that is up this end of town it might bring more people. At the moment it is hard work.”
While the departure depends on the application going through, Lorraine said the ‘actual, official, leaving date is January 17’ but added it could change if new tennants could get in earlier.
The planning application (BR/275/16/PD) outlines change of use from retail (A1) to restaurant (A3).
It includes new floor plans which proposed counter and booth seating to the front with a counter, storage, food handling and cooking area to the rear.
