Scouts create their own advert

SCOUTS in Yapton have put their movement on the map.

They have created a sign in the village about 6m X 2m which advertises their presence.

The large billboard was created on fencing belonging to Matthew Homes, which sponsored the bright paintwork.

Alison Merrick, of the Peregrine Explorers in the village, said: “The Explorers, who are 14-18 years old, decided to try and promote Scouting by designing and painting a billboard in the local village.

“The planning, design and painting was organised by the Explorers themselves.”

About 20 Explorers created the painting over some 12 hours, split into weekly sessions. Planning the billboard took them two months.

It advertises their base in Drove Lane and the fact they need a volunteer leader. A large version of their symbol and the Scouting logo complete the design.
