11 Year Eight students from The Regis School are celebrating after passing the Brilliant Club Project with flying colours.
The Brilliant Club is a national project which is aimed at raising aspirations and helping students to engage in the possibilities of higher education, and all student involved took this opportunity to participate and complete the project to the best of their ability. Following the launch trip at Oxford University, the students attended six tutorials with a PhD tutor and then each wrote a 1,500 word assignment exploring the current research on Ebola and the cause and prevention of pandemics. Having received their marks in January, the students and their parents were delighted to attend the official certification ceremony at the University of Sussex, where nine students were awarded a 1st class mark of 70 per cent and higher, and two achieved a 2:1. Crystal Johnson, who passed the project with 78 per cent, said: “I loved it and I loved learning about new and interesting things”. In the post project review, all students who attended the graduation ceremony said that it was ‘very likely’ or ‘most likely’ that they would apply to go to university to do a degree. Mrs Walker, assistant principal at the school, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to see the determination and resilience of these students pay off, and to see that our students are keen to explore the possibilities that higher education can offer them in the future. These students worked extremely hard throughout the project and we are exceptionally proud of these achievements. As a Rights Respecting School, we know that it is of upmost importance that we develop the talents and abilities of all of our students, and the chance to complete the renowned Brilliant Club has provided these students with this fantastic opportunity to shine”.
