Quick-thinking resident called police

POLICE have warned residents to be on their guard against scammers after an incident in Bognor Regis.

Officers have repeated their advice after a resident reported receiving a call from a man claiming to be from his bank to say his account had been compromised.

The caller asked the resident to remove £3,000 and transfer it to another account.

Thankfully, the resident called police instead and did not remove the money.

Police said a bank will not ask a customer to transfer their savings or part of their savings to another account or another bank in order to protect funds.

Anyone who receives an unsolicited email or phone call from what appears to be their bank or building society asking for security details should never reveal full password, login details or account numbers.

Police advice is to notify the bank immediately if there is unusual activity on the account.
