Developer Hanbury Properties has applied for permission to build on land east of Shripney Road & south of Haddan House.

The site would be accessed from the A29.

The outline application is due to be discussed by Arun District Council’s development control committee next Wednesday (May 27).

Officers are recommending approval subject to conditions.

While Bersted Parish Council has not objected, a total of 12 letters of objection have been received raising concerns about the unsustainability of the site, development on the countryside, highways safety, harm to the rural character of Shripney, air quality and light pollution issues.

But according to the applicant, the development would reinforce the existing linear character of housing along the Shripney Road/A29 and is bordered to the north and south by existing housing.

They added: “The proposals would not be at odds with the development pattern of Shripney, while also making efficient use of the site and would not cause harm to its identity or setting.”

While council planning officers felt the development would alter the character of this part of Shripney Road, they did not consider it would result in any significant harm.
