Police have launched an appeal to find two ‘good samaritans’ who helped a man after he was robbed in Rustington in August.

Police have today (December 2) released a CCTV image of the two ‘good samaritans’ who were walking a brown dog.

A spokesman said: “Police were called at around 10.45pm on August 7 to a report that a 25-year-old man had been robbed at knifepoint near Sainsburys Retail Park in Rustington as he walked towards the railway station.

“The victim then saw two men who were walking a dog in Station Road.

“They offered to accompany him back to Rustington and on the way they spotted the suspect, gave chase, and recovered the victim’s property.

“The suspect is described as white, 6’ and was wearing a black hooded coat.

“He was also seen carrying an orange coloured drawstring bag on his shoulder.”

Detective Constable Lindsey Van Buiten added: “We are also still trying to trace the two men who helped the victim.

“It is very clear that they had nothing whatsoever to do with the offence but we believe they will hold vital evidence for this case and I urge them to make contact with us.”

Any witnesses are asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting reference 1869 of 07/08.

Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or at www.crimestoppers-org.uk.

An 18-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of the robbery and is currently on police bail until December 23 while enquiries continue.
