More than a hundred homes could be built in Yapton.
Developer Gleeson Development wants to use a large agricultural field in the village for up to 108 dwellings. It has applied for outline planning permission to establish the principle of developing the 3.9 hectare site south of Burndell Road.
The housing is expected to range from one-bed flats to five-bed houses.
A statement by Amasia Architects with the application says the scheme will sensitively integrate with the existing settlement and contribute to its character and appearance.
“Areas of green open space, together with existing landscape features and enhancement of a public right of way, provide an attractive landscape setting to this high quality development with links into the village and the wider landscape,” it states.
“The proposed development will also deliver a range of social, economic and environmental benefits to the community and contribute to the vitality of Yapton.”
A consultation by Gleeson in January showed residents’ objections based on a lack of schools, doctors, dentists and pharmacies in the village as well as the effect of more housing on its roads.
