Photos will bring war back to life

A TALK will recall when bombs fell on Bognor Regis.

Frank’s War is one man’s portrait of the Home Front during the second world war.

It is based on the collection of acclaimed photographer Frank L’Alouette who ran a photographic shop in the town from 1931-56.

The talk by Matthew Jones from the West Sussex Record Office will take place at 7pm on October 23 at Bognor Regis Library.

The remarkable photos will bring back memories of gas masks, the Home Guard, the Land Girls and the Dunkirk spirit. They are being shown courtesy of Mr L’Alouette’s daughter.

Such shots are rare because of wartime security rules.

Cllr Lionel Barnard, who runs the county council’s services for residents, said: “Frank L’Alouette’s photographs give a valuable and unique insight into life
in West Sussex during
wartime years.”

Tickets cost £5 each from the library on London Road.
