DEDICATED Peter Rickman has hung up his car keys after helping hundreds in the area get around.
Peter has retired after 11 years helping as a volunteer driver with Sammy Community Transport which helps people from across Bognor and beyond.
Mr Rickman, who lives in Chichester, was presented with a certificate by the charity’s chairman, Roger Turner.
Sammy’s secretary, Mike Collins, said: “Peter has been taking our members to hospital and other health appointments in the Arun and Chichester areas since he first offered to help back in April 2004.
“It cannot be overstated the impact of his unswerving dedication to Sammy and our members.
“He will be sorely missed by those who he befriended along the way, and is irreplaceable by us. We are hoping to keep in touch with Peter and use his undoubted compassionate skills as a helper on our bus services.”
Sammy’s expanding number of passengers and services means it needed a growing number of willing and understanding drivers.
“We never have enough. Perhaps this gives an opportunity for others to come forward and try to fill his driving boots, and continue the Sammy excellence formulated over 42 years of serving the people of Chichester and Bognor Regis.”
