Pet cat Pike shot dead in Sidlesham

Pike had been nurtured from a young age after being rescued

Kathryn Evans, of Cow Lane, received a phone call from her husband at around midday on Tuesday with the shocking news that their ‘family member’ Pike had been found dead on the front drive with what looked to be a puncture wound.

“Why would anyone want to hurt such a calm and beautiful creature?” a devastated Kathryn said.

“He sought out affection from everybody, he would insist on being loved.”

It was only on inspecting the animal’s injury that the scale of what had occurred became clear.

Kathryn believes Pike’s wound was from an air rifle pellet, which had tore into him and caused substantial internal bleeding.

Tragically the velocity of the pellet caused the young male cat’s death, leading Kathryn to question why anyone would do such a thing.

She said: “This has torn a huge chunk from my family’s heart, my 15-year-old son named all of our cats and is so angry as to why someone would want to hurt such an innocent animal.”

Pike was a little over a year old, and having been a rescue cat, had taken some time developing due to circumstances and poor nutrition when he was very young.

Kathryn personally helped nurse him back to full health and was enjoying watching him flourish before being suddenly shot and killed.

“If anyone has any information on what happened to Pike, then please step forward. Whoever did this needs to be brought to justice,” Kathryn said.

Witnesses are being asked to call Sussex Police on 101 using the crime number 0699 12-04-2016.
