MORE than 45 children supported by 65 adults took part in Felpham Sailing Club’s celebration of youth sailing,

Racing for the highly prized Cadet Cup was extremely tight. Jack Miller, helming with Lauren Bentley as crew in their RS Feva, took first place to deny Josh Wilkinson and Alex Mayger the top spot on the podium.

Five training groups provided race training and sail training to Royal Yachting Association standards and delivered by a team of 17 RYA instructors at beginner and advanced levels.

Some 50-plus certificates were awarded to children aged nine upwards.

Roger Belton, a training principal at the club, said: “By the end of the regatta the children were very tired but saved enough energy after all the fun to attend the prizegiving and receive their certificates.

“The future of dinghy sailing is in safe hands at Felpham as these youngsters grow up and share their knowledge and skills with those younger than themselves.”

Club commodore Pat Cullen congratulated the sailors and the 65 adult helpers who made the four day event possible. It ended with a curry supper sponsored by Coastline Driving School.
