Village school wins award for its commitment to PE, sport and healthy lifestyles
Staff and children at Compton and Up Marden CE School celebrated receiving an award for their commitment to PE, sport and healthy and active lifestyles.
Teacher Hayley Smith, who is also PE coordinator, said: “In May our aim was to apply for a School Games Mark award which, due to Covid-19, was unfortunately put on hold.
“As we were rather disappointed to not be able to share all our good practice we then decided to apply for the KS1 Quality Start Award instead.
“After a written application and online moderation we are delighted to say that we achieved a Gold award.
“Huge congratulations to all the staff and children for this amazing achievement.”
Everyone at the school has worked hard to make positive changes in all areas of PE.
Some of the school’s new initiatives include its first sports festival, introducing a daily mile, setting targets to improve, setting weekly personal PE challenges, and introducing sports leaders and ambassadors who are now part the first sports council.
The whole school took part in a My Sports Hero project and new awards include monthly Super Hero Sports Person of the Month alongside the weekly silver cup award to children who show great determination In sport.
