The findings show that a nightclub is desired by 57.6 per cent, of the 1,669 people who answered all the questions, whilst 53.9 per cent think there are too many cafés in the city centre.

Participants were also asked to name one thing that Chichester needs, with answers including Primark and live entertainment.

Meanwhile, 51.4 per cent of people would prefer Chichester to keep the existing parking to minimise impact on residents and businesses.

An overwhelming 77.4 per cent of participants said they would support building a road bridge or underpass across the Basin Road rail crossing, so that traffic would not have to queue waiting for train gates to go up.

An even greater 83.3 per cent of people said they would support more temporary uses or outdoor events within the city.

The controversial ice rink at Priory Park proved to be popular among the majority of survey participants, with 53.4 per cent of people saying it was a good idea and the right place for it. Although, 27.3 per cent of people said it was a good idea but Priory Park was the wrong place for it.

The idea of a new conference/convention centre in the city was supported, with 52.3 per cent saying it would be a good idea.

The results also found that residents thought street trees, statues, murals and wall art and traditional hand paintings would all be positive for the appearance of the city and its surroundings. However, the idea of posters and banners was a less popular suggestion.

"A large number of submissions and representations were also received from outside the survey including letters, meetings and social media contacts from groups and individuals. These will also feed into the next steps.

"All comments and suggestions will be looked at as we take the plan forward.

"The next stage is to look into how the issues supported by residents can be taken forward into projects or policies. This will require some technical work to be carried out.

"Further consultation will then take place on options for implementing these projects and policies, and to assess the level of support for new suggestions and issues raised.
