£50,000 renovation on Bognor bandstand complete

The heritage structure has been on the promenade since 1948, after it was bought from the Cheltenham Corporation for £175. A further £450 was spent on dismantling it, transporting it, to Bognor Regis and rebuilding it.

Now, the beloved bandstand has beneiftted from the a £50,000 grant from the Coastal Revival Fund after a successful funding application from Arun District Council.

The project included rebuilding the bandstand railings with new metal work, a complete renovation of the roof and replacing the existing concrete floor and brick plinth with materials more attuned to the original design.

The refurbishment, which was carried out by Falcon Homes Ltd, began in July 2020, but completion was delayed due to complications related to the pandemic.

Karl Roberts, director of place at Arun District Council said: “We are delighted to see the bandstand restored to its former glory after such a successful renovation project, it really does look fantastic.

Mr Roberts went on to say that, though the council is looking forward to formally opening the bandstand, it will not do so until more Covid-19 restrictions are lifted in order to guarantee the safety of those in attendance.
