Brighton officials have ‘huge concerns’ about the ‘unsafe’ number of people on the seafront which has made it ‘impossible’ for people to effectively socially distance.

The pictures show beaches in Brighton and Hove were packed with people this weekend (Saturday, May 30) following hot weather and a recent easing of lockdown rules by the government.

Brighton and Hove City Council officials said their concerns include reports of adults urinating in front of families with small children, and a lack of social distancing, which could lead to another coronavirus outbreak.

A Brighton and Hove City Council spokesperson said, “We have huge concerns about the unsafe number of people on the seafront in Brighton and Hove and their behaviour.

“The numbers of people visiting the city to spend time on our seafront are making physical distancing impossible and there are also reports of adults urinating in public – in front of families with small children.

“Most of our seafront public toilets are open but the sheer numbers of people means the queues for the toilets are often long.

“Protect our city; protect the people who make it such a special place. Please stay away from Brighton and Hove.

“Many people living in Brighton and Hove don’t have regular access to open spaces. Please make this time easier for them and help them to be able to use the city’s open spaces by not travelling to our city.

“We’re asking you to not visit Brighton and Hove unless absolutely critical - please use parks and open spaces near to where you live.
