News that garden centres would be allowed to reopen has sparked a range of responses from Observer readers.

While agreeing the centres reopening was 'good news' there were also some safety concerns about the decision.

Patricia Delosrios said: "Yes, gardening is therapeutic plus as long as people keep two meters apart it should work. It's up to the customers to be sensible."

Angela Davies said: "I think it's good news, particularly for the growers.

"What will spoil it is all the masses who feel they have to go as soon as they open instead of being sensible and waiting for a few days - it's not as if they will run out of plants is it?"
