New shop proves popular at Bognor Regis care home
Residents of a Bognor Regis care home are enjoying buying and selling from their own shop which has now been open for two weeks.
Lil’ Lovlies shop was the idea of Donna Giles, who runs activities at Homebeech in Stocker Road.
“I wanted to set up a shop that was self funding,” she said.
“It’s not about making money for the home - whatever we make we buy new stock for the shop.
“A lot of the residents don’t like going out and residents with dementia can’t go to the shop.
“This is somewhere where they can go and be in a safe place.
“They can go by themselves and buy somethig without having to feel someone’s watching them.”
She said a few of the 60 residents were working behind the counter and liked helping the customers.
“It’s become a place where everybody comes to have a chat as well,” she said.
“Residents have started to talk to each other who didn’t before. They really enjoy it.”
Little Lovlies stocks sweets, crisps and savoury snacks, toiletries and items made by the residents.
“When families are able to visit again they can buy things made by their relatives in the shop,” Donna said.
