Homes set for former North Bersted surgery land

More houses are set to be built at a North Bersted estate.

Berkeley Homes (Southern) has applied for planning permission for 15 houses on former healthcare land in the Site Six development.

The land was set aside by the developer for a GP surgery when approval for the 850 dwellings on Site Six was given by Arun District Council ten years ago. It is located in the north east of the development area. But NHS officials have officially confirmed they no longer require the land.

A statement by Berkeley Homes says: “The Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group confirmed in writing on December 21, 2015, that they would not be exercising the option of using the site for healthcare purposes, and accordingly, the site is available for residential development.”

The NHS decided instead to extend Bersted Green Surgery to provide it with the facilities to treat up to 15,000 patients with 11,700 registered in January 2014.

For the 0.43 hectare plot of land, Berkeley Homes wants Arun to approve three two-bed, nine three-bed and three four-bed homes.
