Officers stopped the vehicle containing four people just south of Builth Wells on the A470 in the county of Powys.

Police said the occupants were from three different houses and had all travelled from Bognor Regis.

A Dyfed Powys Police spokesman said: "Due to the size of the vehicle, they were not able to maintain social distancing, neither was any PPE worn by any of the occupants.

"The reason stated for their journey was that they had wanted to visit Snowdonia National Park as they were celebrating an occasion for one of the occupants.

"They were stopped approximately 200 miles into their intended 500-mile round trip.

"One of the occupants claimed they did not have a TV and were unaware of the current rules around travel.

"Due to the blatant breach of Covid-19 legislation all four occupants were issued with fines, and the vehicle was turned around to go home to Bognor Regis.

"We would urge all potential visitors to make sure they are aware of the current rules around travel which are set by the Welsh Government - and apply throughout Wales - before they set out on any journeys."
