VILLAGERS were startled to find a large snake in a stream in Eastergate.
The specimen was some 8ft long and was dead when it was rescued by a boy.
A-level student Estelle McLellan, 17, of Church Lane, was walking to her part-time job at Westergate Community School when she came across the suprising incident.
She said: “It’s really quite an amazing thing. It’s bizarre to have this in such a small village like this.”
The unexpected discovery took place just before 4pm on December 14 close to the Wilkes Head car park.
Estelle was told by an onlooker a nine-year-old boy had gone into the stream in his wellies to get the unknown reptile.
