The opening times for the tip won’t change, that is the latest update from county councillor David Barling, cabinet member for resident services.
Mr Barling tonight confirmed, following his meeting with traders, that he had looked at the situation and the proposals put forward in a bid to ease traffic congestion at the site.
However, he added: “I have spoken to two county councillor’s and Bersted Parish Council who were not in favour of changing the hours as they thought it would be more confusing and inconvenient to local residents.
“As a result I have come to the conclusion that I can’t change the hours.”
He stated the talks had led to additional signage about the opening hours, which were cut in October, have been installed along with ‘a barrier that should assist’.
Mr Barling added: “We constantly monitor these sites and we will have a review of all 11, across West Sussex, in six to seven months time.”
When asked, he said this wouldn’t be moved forward to respond to issues that may arise.
He said: “Bognor tip is unique as it is behind an industrial estate.
“If I had money and a site yes I would [move it], but as I don’t have either it is unlikely.
“If anyone wanted to suggest somewhere we could locate it we would definitely look into it.”
