New homes backed by villagers

AN ESTATE of 60 homes backed by villagers has been approved.

Linden Homes has received outline planning approval for the housing in Eastergate.

The site at the former Eastergate Fruit Farm was included in the Barnham and Eastergate neighbourhood plan, supported by villagers, for new housing.

Arun District Council planning officer Neil Crowther said in his decision report this showed the principle of development of at least 60 dwellings was supported.

“Technical matters such as the highways, drainage and ecology are also acceptable,” he said. “There are factors that weigh heavily in favour of approving planning permission for development.”

He added foul drainage for the housing had yet to be agreed but both methods proposed by Linden Homes would be acceptable. The company was also expected to install a signalled crossing on Barnham Road for residents.
