New choir is about more than singing

COMMUNITY choirs UK founder Steve Flashman is launching a new singing group for Bognor Regis next week.

Steve is holding a free community choir session at St Mary Magdalene Church on Bersted Street from 7.30pm-9.30pm on Thursday (January 9).

He said: “Community Choirs UK is not just about singing, although we do a lot of it.

“It’s about meeting people, finding new friends with a common interest, growing in confidence, finding a voice, caring for one another, performing songs we love to sing and raising money for charity.”

There are no auditions for the choir, which is open to everyone.

Rock, pop, soul and gospel will be performed by those who want to find their voices and have some fun.

The sessions usually cost from £4.

Steve founded the New Community Choir three years ago and directs its members. The numbers are capped at 200 to make it one of the biggest choirs in the country, with a long waiting list. He wants to build on its success by taking the same model into other towns and cities to give more people the chance to join in.
