Martial arts fans’ charity kickathon

MARTIAL arts fans are staging a charity speed kickathon in Bognor Regis.

The two-hour session is being staged by the Tao Dragon members this Saturday.

It is taking place from 1pm-3pm at Dream Fitness in the High Street.

Mark Fisher, who runs Tao Dragons, has organised the occasion for the HemiHelp charity. This is for children and young people with hemiplegia – a neurological condition the effects of which are similar to a stroke.

It is caused by damage to the brain and results in varying degrees of weakness and lack of control on one side of the brain and affects one in 1,000 children.

Mark said he was inspired to stage the event because one of his members, aged four, had the condition.

As well as raising money, the event will also feature self-defence taster sessions and a raffle.

“The Tao Dragon classes are quite new. I’ve been running them for for about a year,” he said. “I’ve been involved with martial arts for many years and I decided to do my own thing.

“It’s a form of choi kwang with a little bit of karate.”

Mark has 40 students, aged three upwards, at his classes in Bognor and Middleton
