Crews were called to Eastmead Industrial Estate, on Midhurst Road, just before 6.50pm, where they discovered a 'well-alight and rapidly developing' fire.

Residents living nearby were urged to keep their windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke in the area. “Upon arrival crews found the building well-alight and rapidly developing. They quickly got to work to bring the fire under control, and managed to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining and neighbouring units."

A relief crew was brought in at 11pm to carry out a watching brief over the unit until 2am to 'ensure there were no further hotspots'.

“Officers returned to reinspect at 9am on Saturday morning but found no further signs of fire," the spokesperson said.

"The fire is believed to have begun accidentally, and completely destroyed the unit it began in. Fortunately there was no wider impact to adjacent properties.”
