DECADES of service by Jim Grant in helping to keep his area safe have been recognised.

Mr Grant has been running a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Middleton for more than 20 years as a street co-ordinator.

He has also attended every annual meeting of the Bogor Regis Neighbourhood Watch Association during that time to show his commitment to the organisation.

Association secretary John Holman said Mr Grant’s exceptional service made him one of its most loyal street co-ordinators.

“This is indeed an achievement. This remarkable record has been recognised with a commemorative certificate of appreciation to mark his retirement,” he said.

“Jim still looks out for his neighbours at the sprightly age of 86. Another volunteer is now being sought to take over his scheme.”

The certificate was presented to Mr Grant by Steve Ruddock, Neighbourhood Watch area co-ordinator for Middleton and Elmer, supported by Jacky Pendleton, the secretary for Jim’s estate committee, and Mr Holman.
