The snaps were taken by keen wildlife photographer and local resident Bill Brooks just before 9am, Friday, August 28.

The animal was on its own but that didn’t seem to bother it as it splashed around and swam on its back.

Bill, of First Avenue, said: “This seal was swimming close to the beach, about 15 meters offshore, off Summerley estate this morning.

“It was one its own, with no other animals in sight.

“My photographs were taken between 08.30 and 08.45. It may well have been there longer but as it started to rain heavily, and I had no waterproof cover for my camera equipment, (so) I left at this point.

“I went to the beach again this afternoon at about 3pm but it was no longer there at that time.”
