House prices too dear for many in the Bognor Regis area

HOUSE prices across Bognor Regis are almost ten times earnings.

The startling fact is included in the draft version of Arun District Council’s local plan which is being debated by councillors tonight (Thursday, January 30).

The meeting at 6pm in the Council Chamber at Arun’s Civic Centre, Littlehampton, is still going ahead although councillors decided earlier this month to put on hold any agreement about the site for large-scale housing allocations.

Much of the plan is less controversial and the council is continuing to plot its course through the process needed to be followed to ensure the entire plan is ready for consultation once the decision about the housing sites is agreed on a date yet to be decided.

The housing and transport chapters of the draft local plan will not be considered at this meeting.

There will also be no consideration of housing numbers as these have already been confirmed. Nor will there be any consideration of locations for strategic housing allocations.

Sections for debate tonight include those about open spaces, recreation and leisure, retail and the protection of gaps between settlements.

For a full report on the meeting see the Bognor Regis Observer out on February 6.
