A WINE tasting in Barnham this weekend will help to defend the Six Villages.
A £1 donation from each £5 ticket for the session at 7.30pm, on Saturday (November 30), at Barnham Community Hall is being donated to the Villages Action Group.
Ford-based company, Gusto Wines, which is organising the night is also donating a bottle of champagne as a raffle prize.
The proceeds will help the group build up its funds ahead of the crucial examination in public, likely next year, of plans for a 2,000 home Garden City around Eastergate, Barnham and Westergate.
Chairman Mike Turner told the group’s annual meeting in Westergate last Friday it had £9,320 of funds.
“We still need more in order to field a very strong professional team at the examination,” he said. “But I believe we are more than halfway there.
“We are in a healthy position to build a new case against the new town for the examination to protect those three villages against the devastating over-development.”
Mr Turner and the group’s other committe members were unanimously re-elected at the meeting.
It was the second to be held by the group since it re-formed in spring 2012.
Eastergate Parish Council’s chairman paid tribute to the work of those involved since then.
Cllr Chris Allington said: “This group of hard-working people do fantastic work which the parish council alone couldn’t do.”
