FUNDRAISERS at Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital have presented its matron with a farewell gift.

The Friends of Bognor Hospital handed over a glass bowl engraved with their logo at the ceremony.

Brian Knight, their chairman, made the presentation to Jo Habben in the hospital’s restaurant.

The event took place last Thursday just before Jo’s final day at the Shripney Road hospital on Tuesday.

She has left to take on a new job in Brighton.

Mr Knight said: “Jo has been at the war memorial hospital for just over two years, but has achieved a lot in that time.

“We, as Friends, are sorry to see her go and wish her all the best in her new appointment.”

The Observer reported last summer how Jo had transformed working practices at the hospital, which is run by the Sussex Community NHS Trust.

She carried out a thorough review of its nursing services soon after she arrived there. She took on a 20-strong team of nurses and healthcare assistants as a result.

She also ensured photoboards were put up at the entrances to the hospital’s two wards to ensure relatives can quickly see who is responsible for the patients’ care.
