FLOOD alerts have been issued for the Chichester Harbour area until Monday, January 6.

The Environment Agency said residents should be aware of potential flooding between Thorney Island and Bracklesham, Langstone and Emsworth, and Selsey Bill to Elmer.

High tides could effect Bosham high street, and tides will remain high throughout the week.

“Friday (January 3) is expected to experience the worst conditions with high tide,” said and Environment Agency spokesman.

The Environment Agency expects the flood alerts to be in force until Monday.

Environment secretary Owen Paterson said: “I have been chairing meetings throughout the day to ensure that the Environment Agency and local councils are on the ground and offering all possible support to their communities.

“We will remain in touch with local councils in at-risk areas and I will be chairing a further meeting of COBR to make sure that everyone is prepared and ready to respond.

“With a number of flood alerts for the south east for tomorrow, including several areas which have previously been flooded, I urge everyone in affected areas to sign up to EA flood warnings and follow the advice issued.”
