A Felpham woman who was born on 19.11.1911 has reached her centenary.
Doris Burwell celebrated the occasion on Saturday at Hollymead House retirement home with her nieces and nephews.
She said: “I’m all right. I don’t feel any different at 100 than I did a year ago.”
Doris was born in Fulham, West London, and was a shop assistant when she met her husband, Henry.
They married on September 10, 1939, a week after the second world war began and lived in Fulham. They had a daughter, Margaret.
The family moved to Felpham in 1988 and Margaret became an active member of Felpham Art Group before she died three days after her 55th birthday in 1995.
Henry, who was always known as Harry, was awarded the MBE for services to the Civil Service and died in 2000 aged 91.
Always sociable, Doris was an active WI member and also enjoyed flower arranging. She continues to be interested in flowers and clothes.
She has lived in the home for three-and-a-half years.
