POLICE presence will be stepped up in Bosham over the festive period as the search continues to catch Valerie Graves’ killer.

Detectives investigating the murder of the grandmother at a house she was staying at in Smugglers Lane on December 29, 2013 have made a fresh appeal information on the first anniversary of her death.

Valerie was brutally murdered with a hammer and found the following day by her sister with multiple wounds to the face and head.

A year on a significant investigation continues.

Officers will be in Bosham on Monday, December 29, and Tuesday, December 30, asking residents and visitors if they have any information to speak to them.

Detective superintendent Nick May of Surrey and Sussex major crime team said: “A year ago Valerie was brutally murdered in her bedroom overnight between Sunday, December 29 and Monday, December 30. Where you in the area, do you remember anyone acting suspiciously?

“We need the public’s help to catch this person before they hurt someone else and to get justice for Valerie and her family.

“Since the murder, officers have interviewed more than 9,500 people, of which 8,000 of these were during the house-to-house enquiries and taken 580 statement as part of the investigation, but feel there may still be witnesses with important information who have not yet come forward.”

Chief Inspector Justin Burtenshaw, district policing commander for Chichester, added: “I would urge any residents or visitors to come forward and speak to my officers if they have any information about the murder.

“I have ensured that there will be extra patrols on the night of December 29 in the area to reassure residents.”
