SHOPPERS in Littlehampton are being warned to have their wits about them after a large swarm of bees landed in the High Street, this afternoon (Thursday. May 31).

The colony, estimated to contain about 25,000 honey bees, has stopped outside the Rainbow International headquarters, behind the William Hill betting store.

The bees are resting on one of Rainbow International’s emergency response vans.

Police in the town are now warning shoppers to be wary of the insects, who arrived in the town shortly after noon.

A police spokeswoman said: “The bees are fairly harmless. But to be safe, any people passing through the town should stay away from the swarm until they have moved away.”

The bees are expected to move on within the next couple of hours.
