A rare chance to own a piece of Bognor Regis history was quickly snapped up this week.

The seafront lights, nicknamed the Umbrella Stands, have reached the end of their economic life, and are to be replaced over the next three seasons with ‘bright new features’, trialed at the end of West Street over recent weeks.

Greg Burt, who is responsible for the provision and maintenance of decorative lighting along the seafront, said the five of the lights, which are due to be replaced this season, were put up for sale and have already been snapped up.

He said: “Knowing how many like a Bognor memento, we [were] pleased to offer these at £30 per display.

“They could either be refurbished or if upturned would make great runner bean wig-wams.”
