Demand is repeated for a new school for Felpham

PRESSURE is being put on education officials to build a new school in Felpham.

The officers from West Sussex County Council have been urged to attend meetings of Arun District Council to explain their stance about the future of schooling in the area.

Cllr Ricky Bower, Arun’s cabinet member for planning, said its site six advisory group members wanted to know why the county council was against used land put aside for a new school on the development of some 800 homes.

“Members are very dissatisfied that they are not pursuing what was agreed when the original planning permission was granted in terms of the education provision for site six.

“The suggestion the county council wants to expand Downview Primary School is something the parish and district members of the advisory group are very much opposed to and have expressed that while trying desperately to get the county to reconsider its position.”

It was likely Downview would be up to a mile from the new homes when they are completed.

“That really is not acceptable. I understand children on the site are going to school large distances to East Preston. That really is ludicrous,” he said last Tuesday (November 26).
