A security marking day is being held in Bognor Regis.
The crime-cracking initiative will take place from 3pm until 4.30pm on January 5 at Covers next to the railway station.
Police community support officer Michelle Davies said: “We will mark items which people are purchasing at the time of our visit and also those who already have items of value with them.
“The service will be free of charge and is in response to recent thefts of tools from vehicles and garages.”
Crime prevention will be offered as well to those who go along. Posters which state no tools or valuables are left overnight will be available to put in vehicles.
