Man arrested on suspicion of drink driving after cyclist seriously injured in collision near Shripney

A 21-year-old local man who was arrested following a serious collision near Shripney has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Officers were called by ambulance crews shortly after midnight on Thursday (18 June) to a report of a red Kia car and a cyclist colliding on Charles Purley Way near Shripney.

The cyclist – a 17-year-old boy – suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical condition, police said.

Officers located the Kia nearby and a 21-year-old local man was arrested.

Giving an update last week, police said the man was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle when above the legal alcohol limit; possession of a controlled Class B drug; driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs; possession of a controlled Class A drug; causing serious injury by dangerous driving; and failing to stop after a road accident.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue, police said.

A spokesman said: “Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have seen the cyclist or vehicle beforehand.
