SIX hundred litres of alcohol and more than 600 stops have been made since April by police tackling anti-social behaviour in Arun.

The targeted patrols are part of an operation known as Operation Phoenix which aims to reduce anti-social behaviour on Friday and Saturday nights in hot-spots across the district.

Since April there have been 37 arrests, 24 fixed penalty notices issued, 600 litres of alcohol seized from under 18s and 22 direction to leave area notices.

Inspector Gavin Whitehouse, from Arun Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Anti-social behaviour is a real blight on our community and Operation Phoenix has been successful in helping to tackle anti-social behaviour in Arun.

“When alcohol is seized, it is permanently disposed of, to prevent it from being used by people unlawfully.

“In addition, we also recycle the containers to help the environment.

“If you are concerned about anti-social behaviour in your area contact Sussex Police on 101.”
