Cinema ticket appeal shows '˜true community' in Bognor Regis

A half-term cinema ticket giveaway to youngsters who would otherwise not be able to go has smashed its fundraising target.

Danny Dawes, from Grandad’s Front Room, said he had set out to help 75 children with a cinema ticket giftcard but at the time of going to print, the appeal had already reached enough for 217 young people.

He said the generosity showed the town had ‘true community’.

He said: “It’s just Bognor, it’s just so nice, just £3.50 is going to create smiles, and create memories.”

Some of the children who have previously gone to the cinema with the vouchers had never been to see a film before, he said.

“If you’ve got a family that’s say, mum and dad and three kids, mum and dad will probably go but they may not take the kids because three times £3.50 is a lot,” Danny said. “This way, they can have a bit of time out together.”

As a thank you, giftcard recipients will be encouraged to write or draw a message of thanks to the community on the giftcard envelope.

Donations have so far reached more than £760 and are still coming in.

Danny said he would have to close the appeal on October 16 to organise vouchers in time for half-term but he was very grateful to everyone who had contributed.
