FARMER Matthew Redman helped to revive a medieval tradition in Middleton.
He drove a tractor loaded with hay bales through the village for the harvest thanksgiving in St Nicholas Church which took the centuries-old form of a barn dance.
A large number of all ages enthusiastically tried their skills at casting, forming stars and following other patterns of country dancing, ably led by Janet Douglas.
A delicious supper of filled baked potatoes and apple crumble, washed down with ginger beer punch, restored the dancers’ energies.
The dance raised more than £300 to help the Good Samaritan Vision which supports an orphanage and school in Kenya.
