Cause of Barnham and Bognor power cut revealed

The blackout happened at 5.48pm on Tuesday, November 15, and though most of the 332 households affected had power again at 7.23pm, around a third had no electricity until after 3am the following morning.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSE) confirmed that a tree had brought down one of its overhead lines, affecting 332 properties in the Bilsham, Barnham and surrounding areas of Bognor.

A spokesperson said: “A team of ten engineers attended site to restore supplies to our customers and at 7.23pm we had safely reconnected 222 of these properties to the network.

“Electricity was fully restored by 3.13am this morning, Wednesday, November 16, to the remaining customers affected.

“We’d like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience and thank them for their patience as our engineers worked to restore their power as quickly and as safely as possible.”

A number of shops in Barnham lost power for some time while the railway station’s lights went out, though train services were largely unaffected.
