A NEW award confirms Bognor Regis as one of the country’s best seafronts.
The 2015 National Seaside Award flag was hoisted above the promenade yesterday in the latest of the annual ceremonies.
The award recognises the town’s east beach between the pier and Butlin’s meets high national standards.
Arun District Council chairman Dougal Maconachie and Bognor Regis town mayor Jeanette Warr raised the flag on a promenade flagpoles.
Cllr Maconachie said: “I am very pleased Bognor Regis east has once again secured the the National Seaside Award, proving that Arun enjoys some of the best beaches in the UK due to the hard work of everyone involved in maintaining the beach to such a high standard.”
Phil Graham, Arun’s events and leisure development officer, said the award was good news for Bognor’s residents and visitors.
Strict criteria in water quality, beach management, environmental education and information, environmental management and safety and services had to be met to qualify for the award.
But the European Blue Flag was still out of reach because the water quality, judged over four years, fell short of the standard.
