The BID is applying to Arun District Council for a renewal of the trading license for London Road, with the addition of Place St Maur, Little High Street and the High Street.

A decision on the application is due to be made by the district council’s licensing subcommittee on Friday, (November 23).

BID manager Paul Wells said: “It’s really to cater for any possible events that may come forward in the future that the BID may want to instigate or explore in the year.”

He said the licensing application was needed to renew the market permissions previously set up by the former town centre manager Toyubur Rahman but if it was successful, the BID would consider a ‘refresh and move forward’ of the market offering in general for the town.

He said: “We do want to grow and we want to see the existing stall holders down there return and we want to improve the quality of stalls that are coming to the town centre.

“Markets do provide footfall and as long as you get the right stalls in, they can be an added enhancement for the existing businesses.”
