Funding boost for two Bognor Regis-based groups

TWO groups in Bognor Regis have been given a stake in a £59,971 windfall.

Along with 23 other West Sussex organisations, Christmas has come early for Bognor CAN (Community Action Network) and Youth Bognor as they benefited from the latest round of grants awarded by the Sussex Community Foundation.

Bognor CAN was given £5,000 to help fund martial arts sessions for children and young people, and Bognor Youth was awarded £2,678 for its holiday camp, which will help 60 young people.

The groups have been awarded the funds at a time when many are facing funding deficits in tandem with a greater call on their services.

“It’s been a bumper round of grant-giving and we’ve given out almost £250,000 to Sussex charities and community groups in the run-up to Christmas,” said Mary Carruthers, grants manager at Sussex Community Foundation.

“As a funder, we concentrate on the smaller community groups that do really important work but who can get over-looked,” she added.

The next deadline for grant applications is January 11.
