Two-year-old Erica Markham has given her approval to a new North Bersted play area.

Erica enjoys playing on the £50,000 worth of equipment at the site next to the Jubilee Community Centre off Chalcraft Lane.

Her mother, Natasha Markham, 35, of Greystone Avenue, said: “The slide is definitely Erica’s favourite piece of equipment.

“It’s much better now for smaller children because the big swings have been taken away.

Erica was enjoying herself as the new play area was officially opened last Friday.

It was installed by Berkeley Homes as a condition of its planning permission for some 700 homes on the nearby site six development.

The company worked with Bersted Parish Council, which runs the play area, to ensure the springers, slide, swings and other fun items were just what the area’s young children wanted.

Andrew McPhillips, Berkeley’s land and planning director, said: “It’s good to do something for the community.”
