BREAKING NEWS: Trustees suspended from Mount Noddy Animal Centre

JUST days after raising £5,010.84 for rescue cats and dogs, trustees at an animal centre have been suspended by the RSPCA.

Mount Noddy Animal Centre, in Blackmill Lane, Eartham, near Chichester, held its hugely popular dog show on Sunday (April 13), but this week the RSPCA stepped in to investigate the branch after ‘a number of concerns have been raised’.

The trustees have all been temporarily suspended and replaced by people parachuted in from the national charity.

All further fundraising activities are claimed to have been placed on hold.

An unnamed trustee took to the animal centre’s Facebook today (April 17) to make an unofficial statement.

“I do not agree with all the policies of the RSPCA, I became a trustee to help any cat or dog in need, not just animals brought in by the inspectors,” they wrote.

“Our main supporters are local people and we have built up a lot of respect and help from local businesses and individuals. Our dog show proved that.”

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: “We can confirm that the Sussex, Chichester & District Branch of the RSPCA is under new management and the national RSPCA has taken over on a temporary basis.

“The day-to-day business of the branch will carry on as normal and we can assure local supporters that the care of animals at the RSPCA Mount Noddy Animal Centre is our top priority.”

The RSPCA said it would not comment on any specific issues raised ahead of the investigation.

“A board of experienced RSPCA trustees will be responsible for branch operations, staff and volunteers during this period, in place of the former committee members,” added the RSPCA’s spokesman.

The cause of the sudden suspension and investigation remains unknown.

The unnamed trustee also said in their statement: “Despite all our trustees giving hours of their free time to fundraise and keep the centre going, we have all been suspended, apparently temporarily, whilst an investigation is carried out against one of our trustees.

“This trustee has the support and respect of the other trustees as well as of our volunteers.

“The RSPCA have taken over the running of the centre, all fund raising events are cancelled, please refer all enquiries to the centre.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported us in the past and will no doubt continue to do so in the future.”
