Bognor Regis woman cycles for Children In Need

She has done it in previous years and she vowed to do it again this year.

You just can’t stop Bognor Regis’ cycling hero Lisa Pollin, who is to get on her saddle once more for Children in Need.

Usually she does her fundraising cycle to Land’s End but this year she has a bigger challenge in her sights: Edinburgh.

She will leave Bognor on November 13 for the trip and hopes to raise £1,000.

She said: “This is a bigger challenge. Going to Land’s End was always a bit of an anti-climax when I got there.

“The cycle there was lovely but after all that hard work, it was just a ghost town.

“I like to push myself. The reward for me is I will see the big, bright lights of Edinburgh when I get there.”

Lisa, of Tamarisk Close, has already booked her hotels for each stop along the way. Her stopping points are at Oxford, Leicester, Doncaster, Darlington, Jedburgh and then finally Edinburgh.

She added: “I’ve been doing a lot of hours of cycling to work. I have already done a 65-mile trip. When I get on the bike I keep on going: I am confident I will do it.

“I think Children in Need is a great cause and I first had the idea when I did a Land’s End trip. It then became a regular thing.

“I did not want to cycle in better weather conditions and change charities, I wanted to stay loyal to Children in Need.”

Lisa, who works as an assistant manager for a Superdrug store in Worthing, hopes that she will complete the task within six days.

The hotels she will be staying at have supported her on her fundraising journey by giving her a free room to rest in.

The 29-year-old has featured in the Observer in previous years for her charity cycles. She raised £300 for Children in Need two years ago and last year raised £650.

She hopes to increase her target to £1,000 this year and has been busy visiting businesses in the town centre to get their support.

BBC Children in Need, the BBC’s UK corporate charity, provides grants to projects in the UK which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged. Since 1980 it has raised over £500 million.

This year’s appeal will be televised on Friday, November 18, where you can see celebrities singing, dancing, and doing all sorts of crazy things to help raise money.
