Staff, residents and friends came together at St Nicholas Court in Elmer Road to have a hot drink, some tasty cakes, a good chat and to raise money for a good cause.

The event was part of the Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, and raised £900, bringing the total amount raised by the group to £4,665 in the past seven years.

Manager Nita Ferrier said: “It was such a beautiful and glorious day.

“It was fantastic. I don’t think we could have done any better.

“But it could not have been done without the support of residents and their hard work and dedication.

“The whole atmosphere was buzzing from when we started to right up until the last people left at 1.45pm.”

Nita said she had been overwhelmed by the local community’s generosity.

“We collected 58 raffle prizes, all donated by the local community and residents,” she said.

“A good friend of mine, Jo Biss, also did a huge amount to help.”
