THE Battle of Trafalgar has been honoured in Bognor Regis.
The town’s branch of the Royal Naval Association commemorated the 208th anniversary of the battle with a lunch.
Some 48 members, wives, partners and guests gathered at the Robin Hood in Shripney last Saturday.
The guests of honour were Commander Martin Evans, the captain of HMS Excellent at Portsmouth, and his wife.
He was greeted by an unarmed guard of honour provided by the sea cadets from the TS Sir Alec Rose.
Shipmate Ron Hargest, the association’s social secretary, made the introductions before escorting Commander Evans and his wife to meet the gathering.
When the meeting had assembled, the proceedings started with the branch standard being marched in.
Before the meal, a presentation of a bosun’s call and chain to the winning sea cadet of the piping competition was made.
Music followed, plus an address by the guest of honour, and a toast.
